California Craft Brew Tours


Visit California estimates there are some 500 craft breweries in the state of California and even serious wine snobs are taking the craft beer tasting scene seriously. So here's a list of some of the best craft breweries in California that offer tours.

1. Anchor Brewing in San Francisco

Established in 1849, during the California Gold Rush, making it the oldest craft brewery in America.

Touring:

They offer two guided public tours each weekday, by reservation only. You’ll get a brief history of our company and a walk through three floors of our brewery. And yes, there’s a tasting session immediately to follow. Together, the brewery tour and the beer tasting last for about 1.5 hours.

2. Firestone Walker Brewing Co. in Paso Robles

Established in 1996 by two brother-in-laws, the Firestone Walker Brewing Co. produces 50 plus types of beers throughout the year.

Touring:

Offers complimentary guided tours of the brewhouse and cellar every day. Tours last about 30-45 minutes, space is very limited and reservations are strongly recommended.

3. Sierra Nevada in Chico

In 1980, Sierra Nevada's founder Ken Grossman, created the first Pale Ale, which launched the American craft beer movement.

Touring:

Sierra Nevada has designed several different tours including the Brewhouse Tour, Sustainability Tour, Beer Geek Tour ($25) or a self-guided tour. The Beer Geek Tour is a three hour tour covering all the bases including craft brew history and sampling brews straight from the tank.
